Your local book and paper marbling studio!

Svartbrun is run by us, Calle and Hannah, in Uppsala, Sweden. At the end of 2018 we began binding books in our living room in Malmö and we have loved every second of running Svartbrun ever since! We moved to our new city, Uppsala, in 2022 and recently moved into our brand new workshop in the heart of the city!

The name Svartbrun comes from some vintage marbled papers which we were generously given when we started our company. The prettiest ones were black (svart) and brown (brun) - Svartbrun!

We have learned so much since 2018! Some years ago we began to educate ourselves in the art of paper marbling which we have since incorporated into our bindings. Read more below!
